My boyfriend and I rescued Moxie, the Maine Coon-mix cutie pie in the video and photos. She’s less than a year old, and my boyfriend found her hiding under the car in his driveway, cold and scared, about a month ago.
We soon found that, even with her “special foot,” she was cheerful, affectionate, and happy. She hobbled happily around, always excited to see us and willing to drown us in affection. Basically, we fell completely, totally in love with her from the very beginning.
But even though it seemed like her leg wasn’t slowing her down, we finally got the chance to take her to the vet for the first time today, and the news we got was grim. It turns out that the leg is entirely dead - she didn’t even twitch her ears when the vet pinched her special foot’s pads to test if she could feel pain. Even worse, when he took x-rays, he found some kind of buckshot or shrapnel. He told us that the entire leg needs to be amputated. If it isn’t removed, it will eventually get an infection - most likely a fatal one. And there’s another complication - even though we’re not really sure, there is a chance that she might be pregnant.
The surgery will cost $400-500, and that’s money that we simply don’t have. We love Moxie so much - we CANNOT lose her. Not when she’s just become part of our family. If you have any money to donate at all, we would be unbelievably grateful … if you can’t donate, signal boosts are so helpful!
I will offer COMMISSIONS to anyone who donates. (That link leads to my commission info post, which has examples of my work.) I will do at least a colored sketch or lineless drawing for ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY DONATED, EVEN A DOLLAR. Also, if we end up receiving more donations than we need, ANY EXTRA MONEY WILL BE DONATED TO THE ASPCA.
There is a Chipin widget in the sidebar of my blog where you can donate money, or you can go to http://moxiesspecialfoot.chipin.com/moxies-surgery. Please help us save her!
